Foster- to- Adopt (FTA) Program

In an effort to increase adoptions and ensure the orphan you are interested in is just the right fit for you, the Foster To Adopt Program allows fully approved families to have a glimpse of what life could be with their new companion. Those interested in the program will go through the regular application approval process. Once approved, the potential adopter may take home the orphan they are interested in for 2 - 6 weeks. After that period, should you want to adopt the orphan, the $20 application fee will be applied to the adoption fee. Otherwise, the family may continue to foster or return the orphan to BlueMoon until a permanent home is found. Either way you can feel good knowing you have helped save an orphan's life.

Those interested in the program will go through the regular application approval process. Some Foster-to-Adopt Orphans are not up for adoption on our web site yet, but they are on a waiting list and are still living with the families who need to rehome them or in a shelter that the family surrendered them to.  We personally provide our approved applicants with all information and photos that we may have on a particular dog before a decision is made.

Once a Orphan is placed in a foster-to-adopt home, we have a wonderful web site that will provide much information and support.  After a 2-4 week period, should the Foster to Adopt family want to adopt the dog, the $20 application fee will be applied to the dog's adoption fee. After the "trial" period, Foster-to-Adopt families will be asked to decide if they wish to adopt the Orphan they are fostering or not.  If they decide that this dog is not the perfect match for their family, we ask that they continue to foster the dog in their home while BlueMoon looks for an adoptive family for him or her and we will also continue to look for the perfect Orphan for the Foster-To Adopt home.

If a orphan listed on our Orphans webpage as a “Foster-to-Adopt” candidate, this means the orphan has already been admitted to BlueMoon and has been moved to or we are willing to move this orphan immediately to an approved person/family who is considering adopting them. All Foster-to-Adopt candidate orphans have already been spayed/neutered and are up-to-date on all major vaccinations; but may require treatment or be in the middle of treatment for other ailments. BlueMoon pays for all of the necessary medical care for the orphan and educates the person/family as needed as to how to care for the orphan during this time. Adopters participating in this program must be willing to take the dog to a BlueMoon partner veterinarian for all medical care and work with a BlueMoon for medical authorization during this time. The finalization of the adoption/signing of the adoption contract and fee payment pass legal ownership of the Orphan from BlueMoon to the new owner.

People/families who participate in our Foster-to-Adopt program not only provide a loving home for a BlueMoon Orphan they also save other Orphans at the same time by opening up a space in one of our regular foster homes so that ultimately, BlueMoon can rescue more Orphans.
