Truman

Meet Truman : 5-16-06

Truman was owned by a kind older lady who was very sweet and took in a lot of dogs who had been lost and never cared for. Truman was her own dog but she tried to help many others with disastrous results. When she became ill and was taken to the hospital, and then a nursing home, all the dogs she was trying to help were taken to animal control and all were euthanized except for Truman.

A kind lady at the shelter advocated for him, so he was held over, and she even managed to get him into a temp foster home, as he was such a good boy. He is in in Virginia Human Society Shelter right now, the shelter has had no interest in him locally, and his time is running out. Truman is a 3 year old black lab male (looks purebred), he is clear of parasites including Heartworm, neutered, and up-to-date on his shots. He gets along with ther dogs and is good with children

6-12-06 update:

Truman arrived to BlueMoon last night. We tried to introduce him to his Foster-to-adopt's pack, but the dogs would not accept each other. He is now with a BlueMoon foster, who also has another dog (Mugsy), and they are doing fine together. The stress of the transport could of been a factor or some dogs just don't get along. We will post an update about Truman asap.

7-1-06 update:

Truman is doing well at his foster home.  He is fostering with Ted and Mugsy and gets does fine in the pack.

Truman is a 2-year-old lab mix. He weighs about 60 pounds and stands 22 inches at the shoulder. Truman is housebroken and crate trained.  He knows "no" and tries to do what is asked. He’s been fostering with Mugsy and Ted and frequently visits homes where there are other dogs. He gets along fine with all of the dogs that he's been with.

I haven't seen any signs of aggression. I can take food out of his mouth, move the dish away from him, etc. He just stands there and looks at me like "what the heck is going on?"

I haven't had any problems in terms of children with Truman. He gets along great with my daughters. We went to a graduation party where there were several younger children and he did fine with them too. He actually did great with everyone. This was a totally new group of people for him to meet and there were no problems. He does bark at strangers and when someone pulls into the driveway. When I tell him “no, stop.” he does.

Truman LOVES rides and absolutely LOVES going in the water.  He plays with the other dogs and likes to play fetch.

If you're interested in Truman and you haven't already done so, PLEASE submit an application. The dogs are placed based on a first come first serve basis. Once you submit an application, you'll have a home visit by one of our volunteers. After you're approved, you can choose the dog that you're interested in.
