Meet Trip's Glory and April's Freedom :

Military personnel, especially those in the reserve units, know thy could get called to active duty with very little notice. The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 brought this into a very sharp focus.

One of the many details soldiers must take care of before shipping off, sometimes for as long as a year, is who will care for their pets while they are on active duty or provide a new forever home. Sadly, many of these pets end up in shelters fighting for their lives. Trip's Glory and April's Freedom, named to honor their father, are two victims of the war. BlueMoon wants to bring them to NY and save their lives. Can you Help?

4-22-06 update:

Right now, as you read this page, Christopher, Trip, and April should be in a warm car heading to NY. Assuming the trip goes well, they should all be arriving very late tonight. We will up date you on their journey ASAP! Our great appreciation goes out to Shannon on her mission of mercy for these three souls.

April and Glory just arrived to their foster home. They are absolutely adorable dogs! They spent the morning romping in the large fenced (very muddy!) yard. They loved my kids (5 and 8 Yrs) and were fine with my two German Shepherds. They are quietly resting in their crate now.

April is around 6 months old .  She seems to be in perfect health and has a flurry coat!  She is already sprayed and updated on her vaccinations. She is on HeartWorm prevention. She definitely has some Sheltie or Border Collie in her and I would guess maybe Australian Shepherd (Aussie) or a small Spaniel mix. She is small for a Aussie and her markings are very much like a Sheltie or Border Collie. Her health certificate says she is 25 lbs.  She has that Sheltie way of looking at you when you talk to her. She just looks at you with those " I want to please you" eyes! Her paws were clean before the romp in the yard.

4-28-06 update

April is doing wonderful with our family. I'm going to list her available for adoption and we will start meeting suitable applicants next weekend. This little girl will bond closely to her new forever family, and the sooner she moves into her home the better. She still is not crazy about the crate; but is doing better. She wants to be in your lap all the time and craves human attention. Even as I type this, she just stares at me in admiration. I let her loose in the house with supervision and she appears housebroke. HOWEVER she is a puppy and picks up everything to chew or carry around.  We you scold her she brings it to you...very funny! Her ideal home would be a owner who spends time with her and takes her places to do things.

She is energetic, needs a high level of human attention, and someone to work with her on her basic obedience commands. She needs to work on healing, sit, off, down and other basic commands. She is so keyed into you that she responds well to NO and just stops what she doing. She is highly trainable and mastering these things will not be a problem for her. She is what I call a "busy busy I want to learn girl". She also thinks she is a lap dog and I think she was allowed on your lap in her previous home. She is a good eater and not food or toy aggressive. She is very motivated by praise and food.

She would not do well being left alone for long periods of time with no human interaction, even with other pet I think she would be bored without her person.  She is bonded with Glory and likes my kids; but she is real people companion dog. Even when she in the yard playing with Glory, if I even go to the door she at my feet. She requires a good morning hug before she will go out and potty.

May 9, 2006 Update:

April is doing great and is ready to start visits with potential forever families. She is doing better on her basic commands and is just a dear to be around. She took a trip to Country Max without Glory and she was a bit timid of the place. She rode fine in the car without any issues. I did tie her to the seat for she wanted to be in my lap! She was great with the people or other pets..... but the floor, bright lights and noise scared her! She obviously has not been out in pubic alot! She was a "HIT"  with all the people who just could not believe she was available for adoption. Everyone remarked on how "cute" she was and her coat color. She very "oral" with ALL objects and does pick up things when you are not looking! She chases balls and sticks and we are working on the "bring back to me" command. She likes the couch too! and obviously was permitted on furniture, which at my house is a "no no". BUT I've only owned German Shepherds before! She very focal when she needs to potty or just some attention.  She has the "sharp" Sheltie bark (or yip!). When she tired and has her quota of attention she does quiet day and settle in her crate. She is crated with Glory who settle into nighttime very well. Unlike Glory who happy to lay at my feet while I type this........ April is off exploring unless I'm petting her...then she content to lay there.

The dream home for her would be a person who wants to make her the "center of their life". A special person who will spend a lot of time with her and take her places. She is so content just to be with people and needs lots of hugs. My 4 year is all over her and we never had any incidences. She adores her but picks me when I'm available to show her some attention. She needs a high level of human attention and would be best in a family without busy schedules that did not include her. She been fine with children or grandchildren but a busy home schedule which children brings (believe I know!) ....would not give her the one on one time she needs. UNLESS you had the type of family life that your children and you could include her into their activities. She will need to be with her special person at night or with another pet. I look forward to meeting her future family, this is one special girl.

May 19, 2006 Update:

April has joined her new family. She was adopted today by an retired nanny, named Carmella. They were so cute together! Due to Carmella age, despite her excellent health, April was co-adopted by Carmella's extended family. This ensures she will never be truly orphaned again in her life. THE WHOLE FAMILY WAS THERE TO MEET HER and it was a match made in heaven.

Carmella has LOTS of grandchildren and her fenced yard is a playground of kids things ( and now April things!) April will be the center of Carmella's life and part of a large extended family. She even received welcome toys from the family.. it was quite heartwarming.

April settled in very well and even fell asleep at everyone's feet. It was like she was telling me, okay thanks foster mom, I'm home. The entire family resides in Buffalo NY area. April has already become a huge Hockey fan just like Carmella (yes, that is a Buffalo Sabres sweatshirt) . When I spoke with Camella Saturday morning, they both stayed up late Friday Night, in bed together watching the Oilers in the play-offs. This is definitely one union that deserves the "hat trick".  Congratulations Carmella and April.
