Buffy's owner died and the family said " there is no one to take care of her." So they brought her to the pound on 11/29. According to them, Buffy loves kids. She is very friendly, she sits in her cage like she's begging.. Buffy is 8 yrs old and at a time where she should be enjoying her golden years... not sitting on death row begging for her life.
BlueMoon wants to save this LOVELY GIRL! She is just another example of what happens when people do not plan for their pets. Buffy odds of getting adopted are SLIM!! Please make this a Merry Christmas for her!
Dec 5th, 2006 UPDATE:
Buffy has found a loving foster home. At this time, she is out of the shelter and has been taken to an Ohio vet for a checkup. She is in very good shape and might be a bit younger then we thought. SHE A GREAT FRIENDLY AND VERY PRETTY GIRL! She jumped right in and rode very well in the car. She was a perfect lady at the vets, even with all the poking and proding! The bad news is she tested slightly Heartworm Positive (meaning she must of been off her preventative long enough to be exposed to Heartworm) . The Ohio Vet believes the condition is early stage and very treatable. He also said her overall health is good and that she could most likely survive treatment without any long term impact to her overall health. We will consult our Vet when she arrives.
Dec 12, 2006 UPDATE:
Sadly, Buffy was hospitalized last night. She went in early for her vet visit , for she stop eating and was coughing. The Vet found pneumonia and a blockage in her throat area. Right NOW she fighting for her life AGAIN! She could really need a Guardian Angel or two. Please say a pray for her today, she now fighting this along with the heartworm. We will update everyone ASAP.
Dec 14, 2006 UPDATE:
Buffy has responded well to her pneumonia treatment, she is eating and fever is down. She has returned to her foster home. Next steps is to get an ultrasound this week to determine what going on with her lump in her throat area and heartworm. This lovely girl is still not our of danger but wanted to gives everyone the latest. Thank you Orphan Angels for helping offset her medical costs. Her treatments when finished will cost around $800 dollars.
Dec 16, 2006 UPDATE:
Buffy had her ultrasound yesterday. She has Adult Heartworms in pulmonary arteries. The Dr. suspects pneumonia was caused by the migration of these worms. She will start treatment 12/26. Due to the advanced stage she is considered a high risk patient. Please keep her in your prayers over the holiday season. She is back home in her loving home, enjoying her quiet time and building her strenght for the treatment.
Dec 20, 2006 UPDATE:
Buffy continued to struggle with eating due to the Heart Worms near her throat. She returned to the hospital on Monday for some IVs to build her strength up. She responded well, so she will get her first HW adult-cide injection today! We can only hope she is strong enough to survive treatment, without it her prognosis is grim. She will be monitored every minute, please keep her in your prayers. She being treated by Dr. Kay Morgan at York Animal Hospital, 585-243-5660. The hospital will accept credit card donations directly over the phone to help cover her treatment cost. Please just say it for BlueMoon's Buffy.
Dec 22th Update:
Buffy received her first treatment and so far is doing well. She is eating and not coughing as much. She will be on strict 30 day bed rest and antibiotics; but is going home to her foster tomorrow. BlueMoon would like to thank the staff at York Animal Hospital for providing wonderful care for this girl. She not "out of the woods" yet and will need more treatment; but she will have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and now hopefully a chance at a second life.
Jan 1st Update:
Buffy developed a clot Dec 26th and was rushed back York Animal Hospital in very grave condition. York flushed her system and put her on blood thinners... which clear the clot and saved her life! She was sent home after 2 days and is now back in foster care for strict crate rest. THIS IS ONE LUCKY GIRL!!! Unfortunately, her medical costs are climbing! Thanks for the prayers and York Animal Hospital's prompt treatment!
Jan 23st Update: Buffy received her second treatment last weekend and is doing well. Her lungs are clear , she has picked up some weight, and her eyes are shining.
