Ten dogs and five cats have become orphaned in the last week due to illness and death, leaving them in Long Island, NY, in need of rescue. Glen Highland Farm (a border collie rescue) recently learned these 10 dogs had been "willed" to the Farm - within 48 hrs, all 10 dogs had been temperament tested and GHF committed to providing a safe, healthy solution to the orphans.  Blue Moon and Glen Highland Farm have agreed to work together. All 15 orphans will be taken from the home this week.

The 10 dogs are all good natured, friendly and clearly well-loved. In meeting them for the first time at that home. Glen Highland Farm temperament tested all of them and found them to be very acceptable for rescue. They had previously been vaccinated regularly and cared for properly. The illness and death changed the home situation dramatically so their care has not been as good as of late though they all very well fed and in good health. The cats listed are very friendly and love people.  The other two cats went to a forever cat sanctuary, where they will be happier living their lives in a large cat colony.

Update Sept 19, 2006:

Thanks to our friends at Glen Highland Farm, the Long Island Orphans are all safe and doing well at Lord Hill's Kennels. They will be moving to Bluemoon's care in about a week. We had the pleasure to meet these guys last week and take lots of pictures. They are a bunch of REALLY NICE DOGS and three loving cats. We all had such a great time playing and getting to know them.

Reno Maisi Cass

DAISY (picture right) and her PUPS, now grown: Daisy was dropped off the guardian's home, unwanted. Unbeknownst to them she was not spayed. The guardian's boxer mated and the litter of pups, all now six years old, arrived. The guardians decided to keep the family together. The boxer has since died. We believe she a German Shepherd/Lab mix. She is 7 yrs old and in great health. She has a quiet and friendly nature.

The siblings: Juju, Maisi, Reno, Cass, Ukie, Kelly have only known this one home. Their personalities vary with one the big ball dog; another the people dog; another shy...like any family, they are all different. They all lived in a home with cats with no issues.  Thes guys are around 60-75 lbs.

Overall, the entire group is delightful though will need patient care to go through this change to a new situation. They have received excellent vet care their entire life and are in great health!

Kelly Ukie JuJu

MISSY (left) and GYPSY (right) have lived together since pups. Both are senior dogs (15 and 13 yrs) with gentle personalities and will need patience and understanding to go through the change to a new life. They have managed with the large pack for the last seven years and done just fine.

These are senior ladies but both are in excellent health. They have had excellent vet and dental care their entire lives.

In exchange for need a warm heart and cozy bed they will provide loving friend. We would like to keep them together, if possible.

KIKO was tied to the chain link fence of the former guardian, unwanted. He has lived in this home for four years, fitting in well with the entire gang of dogs.

Kiko is around 10 yr old; but you would not know it. He is a Keeshond (see breed description below) and a real sweetheart, his good looks and charm is clearly present.

"The Keeshond is a very old breed, and one of the very few which throughout history have always been raised for family companions and watchdogs. The fact that they have not been bred to hunt, kill animals, attack or chase criminals undoubtedly accounts for their gentle, intelligent devotion to their owners as home-loving dogs with a special fondness for children, for which they are renowned." Keeshond have long lives, many reaching 15+ years.
