Ruby

Ruby was a southern orphan impacted by the hurricane in Alabama. Ruby, is a 20 week Wired Haired Doxie  ( Dachshund Breed Standard) mix . We were told she had German Shepherd in her, but as she grows we are not seeing much Shepherd.   She has those stocky short legs ,the longer back body , and the color of a wired haired Doxie

Ruby is only 25 lbs and around 21 weeks. SHE is not going to be a big dog. I would say she will be lucky to reach 40lbs. She a great girl, her foster family has done a great job with her for she is very well socialized. She confident and playful. She was fine with a small 4 yr old child; but does need to refine her leash skills and jumping!

She is very cute and has beautiful markings.  She is very sweet and loves to cuddle.  She gets along very nicely with our Rikki (Shep Mix male) and is wonderful with our 7 yr old daughter.   She is basically housebroke and is crate trained. This is one social and happy puppy just waiting for a family of her own. She has her basic training and manners.

Ruby is up-to-date with all her vaccinations, spayed and wormed. Her health is excellent and she growing like a weed. She is ready for her forever home!

August 8, 2006 update

Ruby new home was not the right fit for her, so she is looking for her forever family.

Ruby is a wonderful pup with everyone she meets. She is being fostered in a family with a 6 month old baby and Ruby does wonderfully with her. When the baby cries, Ruby tries to give her kisses to make her feel better. I have not seen any aggression whatsoever. The baby's exersaucer is right by Ruby's crate and Ruby only stares or chews her bone contently next to her. I am recommending children over 4 years old because Ruby is still a puppy and does have exuberant puppy energy. I feel children younger then 4 years she may knock down when playing. Ruby is house trained and does her potty immediately outside. We are working on not pulling when on leash. Ruby currently knows sit and to come when called. I feel she will make a great dog with the right training.

Ruby will only be placed in a home with another playful dog or children over 4 years old. If you do not currently have a dog, please do not apply for Ruby. No exceptions will be made. We would also like to place her in a fenced yard with a 4 foot + fence. The ideal dog would be in the 40 pound plus range as Ruby loves to jump around and play. I am sure she would do fine with a smaller dog, but I feel her puppy playfulness may be too much. She currently is being fostered with 3 adult dogs (2 males-GSD and Labrador & 1 female GSD). Ruby loves them all and is respectful to everyone. She loves to jump around and have them chase her. She has a great personality for a pup and will be a great dog as she matures. She respects both of my alpha GSDs and my submissive Labrador male. She knows how to work her puppy shenanigans on them all by going belly up in front of them but sneaking around for a quick play bite on their back leg when they are not paying attention and then running for them to chase her

8-26-06 Update;  Ruby was a perfect Lady at the Toy Fest. She made lots and friends and was a delight to be around! She and Tommy really enjoyed playing together.

9-19-06 Update:

Possible agility dog champion!!!!!!!

Ruby is a very intelligent little girl. I think she would make a great agility, obedience or activity dog. She has a wonderful combination of drive, focus and will to please her people along with a sweet spot for cookies that makes her highly food motivated. Ruby's favorite activities include running around the yard and jumping on the bench to be tall like my dogs, climbing under the couch looking for toys, crawling thru the baby's exersaucer with precision while the baby is in it as to not bump her, running up and down the steps looking for the cat, chasing & retrieving balls on command and running around and under the other dogs. After all of this fun outside and inside, Ruby is then content to just lay at my feet, chew on her bone, have her belly rubbed or lean against my leg and stare adoringly. Ruby also knows crate and willingly goes in there when I go to work or we turn in for the night. In the house she knows that it is a low key zone and enjoys relaxing and gathering as many toys as possible. Overall a typical puppy that needs to exercise and get her energy out so that she can be a good young lady in the home. She will not be a hard dog to teach agility or obedience to as she is very praise motivated along with food.

Ruby continues to impress me more each day. She adores and gives kisses to everyone (dogs and people) she meets. She also rolls over easily to have her belly scratched. She is now the official cuddle-pup in my home and loves to stare adoringly at us while being loved. I feel she will bond very strongly to a new family once she is settled in and will adore the whole family. If my daughter was older then 6 months I could see her dressing Ruby up and Ruby basking in the attention.

I believe Ruby will make a wonderful dog for some lucky active family. She is one of the best dogs I have ever fostered and with loving guidance will reward you back everyday with gratitude, love and kisses.More details and pictures of Ruby
