66 large dogs found abandoned on Newark Valley, NY Farm after neglectful owner dies

Sheena, MJ, Flax Molly and Millie don't have much longer to live. They are five the sad 66 dogs kept in broken down kennels on a rural farm near Binghamton, NY. When the owner (breeder) died, (after neglect proceedings were taking place) these dogs were left to fend for themselves. There were 17 purebred German Shepherd and 49 Kuvasz dogs found on a property.

Thanks to the great efforts of the rescue communities and the shelter, many of the dogs that were able to be adopted have found new homes or have been taken in by a rescue.   The Kuvasz community quickly sprung to help their breed. However, the German Shepherds still NEED help. These five are still at the shelter and in GREAT NEED. Their deadline for euthanasia is Sept 10th, 2006.

SEPT 1st UPDATE: THANK you to everyone that came to the help of these dogs. All five of these gsds, are SAFE and in loving forever or foster homes.

UPDATE 8-26-06 - MJ WAS ADOPTED Directly from the shelter TODAY! This is MJ -- aka "Split" due to her split ear. She is a medium sized spayed female, and scared, but extra sweet. She walks well on the leash outside with volunteers at the shelter, who just LOVE her. She needs a patient quiet home where she can learn to love and trust human beings. She has been walked by the cat cages, and by other dogs and doesn't seem to pay any attention. She is submissive and has shown no aggression, just likes to cuddle on the floor of her kennel, with her only comfort a thin blanket. The shelter staff loves this girl and doesn't want to see her euthanized with all the others there that surely won't make it out. Anybody have room for Sweet MJ "Split"?

UPDATE 8-27-06 Update - In a BlueMoon Foster to Adopt home.

Sheena is STUNNING and would be even more so if groomed and loved. She is sweet, scared, and needs socialization. She has come a long way -- this week she has started wagging her tail for the first time when approached in her kennel! She is so beautiful - a dark red sable. She is scared, and yet, will wag her tail, and wants so much to learn to love. She can walk by the cat cages without any issues, and doesn't have issues when dogs walk by on leashes while we are out walking. She walks good on her leash and just loves to get outside in the sunshine and feel grass instead of concrete on her pretty paws. There is a deadline for euthanasia soon, and Sheena would love to be one of the dogs who makes it out alive, most won't have a chance. The last two pictures were taken the first week, and she was so depressed. Now, in just a few short weeks, she is learning to wag her tail when approached, she will even give a light kiss. She has shown no agression at all and is walked regularly by both shelter staff, volunteers, and me!

UPDATE 9-1-06 -ADOPTED - In a BlueMoon Foster to Adopt home.

This is FLAX yet another of the beautiful dogs from the neglect case in Binghamton NY. Of all the dogs there, he is the most socialized, and as the volunteers say "the least scared". He was not kenneled but for some reason allowed to run loose on the "breeders" property, so he seems to have more experience than some of the others.

He's a nice loving male who will give out the occasional kiss, very sweet, and the shelter staff just love him. He is a dream to walk. He doesn't have any issues walking by the cat cages, nor with other dogs when they go by outside while we are walking. He let two off leash labs go bounding by us while walking and never really paid much attention to them. He is probably mid-age, not real young, not real old, and seems like he would be wonderful to work with and a great pet. He has a personality in there, just waiting to come out, given the right time and attention. He is ready to be adopted!!! Flax has not had it easy in life, as his ear was chopped or bitten off, and he has several scars on his face. He is a very nice dog!

UPDATE 8-27-06 - Molly is safe in her Brightstar Foster Family home!

Meet Molly- This is a very dear old gal! She is so sweet and just want s a friendly hug or to be near you.

She is older, her exact age we dont really know. Her front teeth are gone, and her canines are HORRIBLY worn. However; besides a much needed grooming, she seems fairly healthy for an older gal.

Seniors make the greatest friends! Please consider Molly.

UPDATE 9-1-06 - In a BlueMoon Foster to Adopt home.

Millie- She's a BEAUTY and very sad. She's gorgeous and so scared.  The volunteers have just started working with her, and she making great progress. Millie is very pretty on the petite side, maybe 55-60 pounds?  We got in the kennel with her, with no reaction.  She recognizes people she knows, just very scared.  Not sure if they tried walking her outside yet.  She loves her bed-a real princess, and comes up to the gate to give kisses.
