Trip's Glory

Meet Trip's Glory and April's Freedom :

Military personnel, especially those in the reserve units, know thy could get called to active duty with very little notice. The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 brought this into a very sharp focus.

One of the many details soldiers must take care of before shipping off, sometimes for as long as a year, is who will care for their pets while they are on active duty or provide a new forever home. Sadly, many of these pets end up in shelters fighting for their lives. Trip's Glory and April's Freedom, named to honor their father, are two victims of the war. BlueMoon wants to bring them to NY and save their lives. Can you Help?

4-22-06 update:

Right now, as you read this page, Christopher, Trip, and April should be in a warm car heading to NY. Assuming the trip goes well, they should all be arriving very late tonight. We will up date you on their journey ASAP! Our great appreciation goes out to Shannon on her mission of mercy for these three souls.

April and Glory just arrived to their foster home. They are absolutely adorable dogs! They spent the morning romping in the large fence (very muddy!) yard. They loved my kids (5 and 8 Yrs) and were fine with my two German Shepherds. They are quietly resting in their crate now.

Glory is around 8 months old.  She is in perfect health and has a beautiful flurry coat!   Honestly, she a little overweight!

She is already sprayed and updated on her vaccinations. She is on HW prevention. She too has some Sheltie in her; but looks less Sheltie and more Aussie or a Spaniel of some type. Her papers say Spaniel mix? and she is quite small for a Aussie....who knows??? I just know her color is just beautiful!  She is around 35 lbs, maybe a bit more. She might be April's older sister...but hard to tell. The two are bonded and Glory is the more laid back and confident one.

Glory was much less anxious with the introduction to the kids and my dogs than April. My very large male shepherd (Yukon) is quite intimidating and Glory displayed excellent "doggie social behavior". She let Yukon know that she accepted him as the boss; but was not fearful of him. She even let my son work with her on her sit command. It is obvious that they were raised with kids. They also loved my husband.

4-28-06 update

Glory is doing wonderful with our family. I'm going to list her available for adoption and we will start meeting suitable applicants next weekend. This is a real nice companion dog, she craves attention ;but in a non demanding kind of way. She is energetic but quite "mellow" after her exercise. She is definitely not as "busy" as April . Glory could be just as happy just laying at my feet (of course after her hugs and exercise).

She too needs some work on leash healing, sit, down and other basic commands. She is highly trainable and not as excitable as April. She learns things very quickly and does not require many "reminders". She is motivated by praise and food; but not to the extent of April. Matter- of -Fact, she lets April share her bowl of food. She is much less vocal than April.

I believe she would do best in a home that can be with her most of the time. She is excellent with the kids and seems to tolerate their busy, noisy energy very well. She appears to be housebroke and settles into her crate at night very well. She likes sticks and chewing bones, but seems content with an object for a longer duration than April. She too is still very young (8 months) and needs supervision with what to chew and what not to chew. I believe she is an older sister of April, the color pattern on their feet is almost identical and their faces are similar. Glory is 10 lbs heavier than April, but has the same bone structure. She could just have two more months of growing on her. She should not get much bigger. We don't have a cat; but when she spent the night with Dee, she was fine with her cat, Fred. Please note that Fred is a dog friendly cat . Glory is going to make one Lucky person OR family very happy.

May 9, 2006 Update:

Glory is doing great and is ready to start visits with potential forever families. The dream home for her would be a family or adult home with another pet. She loves human interaction but is more laid back and content to please herself than her sister, April. She extremely smart and loves children. My 4 year old bumped her head the other day and started to cry. Glory was right there trying to console her, in a very mother like fashion. She very sensitive to verbal praise and corrections. The constant commotion around my house does not upset her at all. She likes to explore the large yard and carry sticks around; but she is not as "oral" with objects as April. However she is still young and a few "care bear" plastic toys have not survived her attention! I love it, for it reenforces to my kids to pick up their toys!

She settles well at night and is not vocal at all! A least I have never heard her! She is crated at night with April and after a long day with the kids playing in the yard....she happy to crash! This girl is going to make someone's life very enjoyable.

May 27, 2006 Update:

Glory is doing fine without her sister and is ready for a home of her own. We gave her a bath today and she did very well with the still water. The running water scared her alittle or maybe it was just too cold!  The kids played with her and she soon forgot the ordeal. Her coat is JUST beautiful!

July 11th Update

We thought Glory had found her forever home with a family in the Finger Lakes, NY area. However after a week, it became apparent that the family was not a great match. Although she did nothing wrong and was wonderful with the children, Glory was not happy in the home either. The family had real mixed feelings of returning her for she so sweet and great with their children; however they knew a forever match needs to fit everyone's lifestyle. Glory's passive, submissive, I rather "hug and kiss" you than play ball with you attitude was not fitting their active lifestyle. They also did not have another dog for a playmate , and that seem to depressed Glory even more. She loves the game of doggie tag!

Glory's back with us and has fallen right back into the family pack. The week away seem to do no harm to her loving, low key personality. She was extremely pleased to see my two German Shepherds, which confirms her need for a canine companion. I will assess her for a few days and then resume a forever home search for her. I do know she will be placed in a home with another dog, preferably male or a non "bossy" female about her weight (35-60lbs). During this time we will just enjoy her company again.

August 15, 2006 Update

Glory (now Maggie) has found herself a forever home in Pittsford, NY. She has a 4 legged Border Collie brother, Winston (who is just her size), to play with and plenty of arms to hug her.

She also has two feline friends. She enjoys her days snuggling with her family, taking walks, and romping with Winston.

Congratulations to the entire family.
